What makes him interesting?
Adam never stops. He daylights as a Digital Strategist for an advertising agency, helping clients with all things web-related. In his "spare time" he's co-hosting a popular podcast called The Unknown Studio where he spends time with a variety of Edmontonians (what a novel concept!). He is a co-boss of Nerd Nite Edmonton - as they say, "learning is more fun while drinking beer." Besides that, he's sharing all things Edmonton and/or entertaining to his hefty amount of twitter followers, being recognized as Top 40 Under 40 by Avenue Magazine and was recently awarded the coveted Alumni Horizon Award from University of Alberta. Long story short: he's incredibly busy making Edmonton a better place to live. Trust me.
Adam is not the type of person to say "wouldn't it be cool to do this?" Instead, he just does it and shows us how cool it is. For example, his latest "side project" is becoming the next C-list YouTube celebrity with his channel cleverly named Just Adam Minute. I could explain, but you should just go watch some of his videos and see for yourself.
The Key to Adam's Success: Saying yes! If anyone asks for help or pitches a new project, he finds a way to make it happen without over-thinking it. When trying to determine if he's superhuman, I found out that he only gets 5-6 hours of sleep per night. He gets more energy from doing everything he loves than he does from sleeping. This makes me feel better about being much less productive than him but getting a bit more beauty rest.
Adam's Favourite Places
eat & drink// Craft Beer Market - 10013-101A Ave, off Rice Howard Way (where we met)
Guess what his favourite part about Craft is... their app! Of course. If you try 100 different kinds of beers from their menu within one year, you get your name on a shiny plaque in their front entrance! You can track, rate and discover new beers through the app (listed as Craft Beer Market in the app store).
eat// Meat - 8216-104 Street
Adam loves how down to earth the owners and staff are at this recent Edmonton addition. He told me the story of how the owners would like to bring in a wildly expensive and rare cask of bourbon just for fun. They won't jack up the price, they want to share something rare and delicious like you would for friends at a dinner party. How nice of them!
go & shop// Art Gallery of Alberta - 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square
The Art Gallery of Alberta doesn't need explaining. It's awesome, every time you go. Did you know it's free the last Thursday evening of every month? And a membership gets you a discount at the gift shop which, as Adam says, is the best place to shop for anyone. Especially for unique children's gifts.
go// The Fountain on Victoria Park Promenade - 100 Ave from 116 Street-121 Street
When this fountain is turned on for the first time each year, Adam knows summer has officially begun. Adam gets to relax to the sounds of this fountain from his balcony.
Adam's Favourite Things
covet// XERISCOPE Watch
Adam loves the fine details and visible mechanisms in his limited edition watch. There's no battery, it's all kinetic.
read// East of Eden by John Steinbeck
He's read it a few times. Adam's words: "It's one of those books that you could read aloud and never stumble. The writing and descriptions are suberb." He wrote out one of his favourite quotes from the book for his note:
