Jacqueline Jacek makes foodie dreams come true. You might not recognize her face but you've probably seen her light blue boxes of chocolates gracing store shelves and special event tables. Inside those delightful little boxes are handmade chocolates that dreams are made of. Jacqueline's dreams, to be exact.
This is so fun: She runs her chocolate business like a fashion house with completely new collections three times per year (Spring, Summer, and Fall/Winter). Don't worry, there are some classic Jacek chocolates that are never out of style. For every collection, she has a muse. Jacqueline and her team brainstorm the flavours that fall under each theme. They test recipes. They decide on the look of each chocolate. They test some more. Then finally, the collections are ready for you to completely melt over. Lucky for us, her Fall/Winter collection launches this week!
Jacqueline put her love of chocolate, food and fashion together when she started Jacek Chocolate Couture in 2009. She had a great following after selling her creations at farmers markets, so she built a commercial kitchen in her house. In October 2011, she moved into her own space with an official store front too. This summer, her second location opened in the heart of downtown on 104 Street. In her fashionable kitchen, she dreams big and puts her lofty goals in plain sight on a giant chalkboard wall as a reminder to stay on track. A nice touch!
Jacqueline's Favourite Places
She plays and works in the same area, so a lot of her favourites are on or around 104 Street and Jasper Avenue. She loves all the businesses on that street and couldn't wait to put her own store amongst such wonderful company.
drink// Credo - 10134-104 Street
They've sold her chocolates since they opened. She often gets a coffee while at work next door and plans her business meetings there too.
eat// Cavern - 10169-104 Street
Jacqueline loves to host at her house so she's often picking up delicious cheese from Cavern to have on hand at home, or she'll stay there to indulge in wine and cheese and food-talks with the owner.
shop// Workhall - 10137-104 Street
She buys a lot of wardrobe staples from the local designers that make up Workhall. She loves that they are comfortable but can be dressed up if need be. They just opened a second location on Whyte Avenue!
Jacqueline's Favourite Thing
covet// Her Wedding Ring
If she had to take anything from a burning building, this would be it. It seems to be a recurring item amongst Noteworthy People - many can't live without their sentimental things and that's nice to see.
Jacqueline's Recommended Reads
read// Good to Great by Jim Collins
Something she's always doing with her business is thinking of how she can take it all the way to great, not just settling for good.
read// All In by Arlene Dickinson
There was a line in this book that resonated with Jacqueline - get comfortable being uncomfortable. As an entrepreneur, this is the everyday norm.
Jacqueline's Personal & Profesional Mantra
Bring joy. Whether it's creating a new chocolate collection or planning a day with family, Jacqueline is always trying to bring joy. She believes that your business is often a manifestation of yourself, and she hopes to bring her customers joy through her own love for food, fashion and design (Hey Jacqueline, mission = accomplished!).
For her note, Jacqueline gives us some hints for her Spring 2015 collection. Think about it... all of these things only come together in one place (or story)...
